A puppy should not be walking in public places until it is fully immunized at around 16-20 weeks, but such strong and massive dogs need early socialization. The owner has to carry the pup for several months exposing it to people, sight and sounds it will encounter as an adult. Professional obedience training of these dogs is vitally important. Being very active, these dogs need regular exercise. A good walk twice a day is enough to keep the dog fit. The breed in general is described as people-oriented; individual personalities of the dogs can vary from very friendly to aloof.

The dog has a strong and massive body that is well developed and formed. The legs are strong and not too long; the ears should be cropped and carried forward. The muzzle of the dog is well developed with a scissors bite. These are loyal animals that are good with family members. Nevertheless these are very big hounds and they should never be left with small children without observations of adults. The hounds are good guards and watchdogs.
