Rottweilers Rescues Pictures - Breed History
There are a few suppositions as to the origins of Rottweilers. It is believed that these dogs were developed in Germany. Butchers are believed to have bred this dog. Rottweilers may have descended from the dogs that were used by the Romans as cattle herders. The point is that the armies needed a lot of food during their wars and used cattle as a food resource. The dogs made perfect drovers and also guarded their camps. They were large and enduring and would never give up without a fight. The dogs' devotion and good physical attributes allowed them to survive through centuries.
The breed's name probably stems from a town name Rottweil. This was a large trading center during the Roman Empire. The dogs were numerous there and helped people in every activity. The breed became especially popular in the 1900's and started to be used as police dogs. The first breed club was formed in 1921 in Germany. The American Kennel Club first admitted the Rottweiler ten years later.
Nowadays, the breed does will in obedience, police work, personal protection, and other canine activities. These dogs are also suited for families, as the breed is not aggressive and does well with children. People, who are about to buy a puppy, should study the history of the Rottweilers to understand their personality and functions.
